2B Fishing Guiding Service has been on the water a lot the last few weeks fishing walleyes all over the Kawartha Lakes area!! Lakes such as Rice Lake, Pigeon Lake, Buckhorn Lake, Sturgeon Lake and Crowe Lake have been producing great numbers of fish as well as some sizeable ones over the slot length! The prime time for walleyes is definitely here! One of the easiest as well as productive ways to catch walleye in the shallow Kawartha Lakes while casting is with a lure called an underspin. It is essentially a minnow shaped jig head with a small willow blade attached underneath the head for some extra flash and vibration. A small swimbait or minnow style plastic can be added to the back of the underspin for some extra weight as well as to enhance the baitfish profile that it is designed to mimic. 2B Fishing strongly recommends the Sneaky Underspin made by Great Lakes Finesse paired with a minnow style bait from Great Lakes Finesse called the Drop Minnow. Together this pair makes a deadly combo for several species including spring walleyes. Cast the bait out, let it fall to roughly to the middle of the water column and slowly retrieve it back to boat. Simple but super effective in almost all conditions.
